shopping". This allows us to provide our customers with a totally unbiased and
honest Home Energy Audit. Many customers ask us for referrals of area insulation
contractors, whether it is cellulose insulation or spray foam insulation, etc Although
we are not referring anyone in particular, we have compiled this list for our
customers. We will try to categorize as to type of insulation and area covered.
It remains the responsibility of the customer to check references and we always
recommend getting at least three estimates. The good news about this economy is
that businesses are competing for your business. Again this is not a
recommendation, simply a place to start. The one thing we do recommend is stay
away from "one-stop shopping", companies that provide the Home Energy Audit and
the services, such as insulation and/or windows. These companies do not provide
unbiased Home Energy Audits, they tend to lead you to the products they sell. Their
Home Energy Audits are a tool to sell you their product, whether it produces the
greatest savings with the shortest payback or not.

and units of fuel, but most importantly "payback in years". This allows you to see
where you will get the biggest bang for your buck. It is always the recommendation
of New England Energy Audit, that you start with the measure that produces the
greatest savings with the shortest payback. The savings produced by the first item,
allows you to progress to the next item. This allows you to finance your own
projects, one by one without requiring any loans or outside financing, which
hopefully the American consumer has come to realize, is very unwise to say the least.
Large big box companies and others are touting "free energy audits". That is not
exactly true, it is only "free" if you purchase their products and services. For
example, Sears Blue Climate Crew, has a pilot program in California where the cost
of the Home Energy Audit is $499.00, but if you purchase $5,000.00 of product and
services, it is free. Nothing could be further from the truth, the cost of the Home
Energy Audit is calculated into the cost of the products and services they provide.
They are hoping the consumer is well....frankly stupid. I believe those days are
gone, the American consumer has become savvy with todays economy and will stay
that way for years to come.
Once the Home Energy Audit is complete they will of course sit down with you to
discuss "their" findings. Then the hard selling techniques begin. Their objective is
to get you to sign on the dotted line. They will even offer you "free" financing in
many instances. Nothing in this world is "free". BE SMART!
