Where heat escapes your home.
Air leakage accounts for about 1/3 of heat loss within the home
and creates an uncomfortable feeling.  Air and heat leaks through
cracks or holes in walls, ceilings and floors, as well as around
doors and windows.
Leaks in the upper part of your home cause the worst heat loss
In the Northeast approximately 9.2 million rely on natural gas for
heating their home, 7.1 on fuel oil and 2.3 million on electricity.
54.6% of the residents in the Northeast state that they have drafts
in their home, during winter months, which is a major source of
heat loss.
A relatively small investment today can save you a lot of money in
the near future.
Attic insulation should have an R factor from 38 - 49 depending
where you are located in New England.        
Replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent
bulbs can save you around 94 kilowatt-hours per year per lamp.  
Much more can be saved by changing over your outdoor flood
lamps to compact fluorescent.     
Lower the temperature
of your water heater.  A
temperature setting of
120° F is fine, unless
your dishwasher doesn't
have a booster heater.
