TIP #6 - Allow at least
one inch of space on
each side of the
refrigerator for good
circulation. Poor
circulation can
increase energy
consumption by 10%.
A Home Energy Audit should be performed before work begins or during the
project and/or after the project is completed. If you are doing remodeling for a
client, why not include the importance of saving them money on energy costs, for
which they will be grateful.

By having the blower door test done you actually show them how much heat is
being lost due to air leaks, something they are often totally unaware of.  You will
receive a "before" reading, and what the ideal blower door test reading should be
for that particular home.  As the blower door test is being done you will be able to
identify where the air leaks are occurring.  You can eliminate all the guess work,
air leaks that occur throughout the house are readily apparent with a blower test,
as you actually feel each and every location throughout the entire home, with this
single test.

Infrared examination will show them what is going on behind those walls.

With that information in hand you can seal up these "air leaks" during the
remodeling process.  We will work with you in one of two ways in order to air seal
properly.  You can be sealing many of these "leaks" while the blower door test is in
progress, since you can actually feel where these air leaks are occurring.  This
allows you to seal air leaks and see the actual reduction in outside air entering the
home.  The blower door test tells you approximately how many square inches of
"holes" are present in the home.  As you seal up these leaks you will actually see
your readings reduced, insuring you have targeted the largest sources of air
leaks, that allow for heat loss.

For example you may have a customer that is on the fence about whether or not to
replace those old wooden, leaky windows.  If those old windows are the source of
the air leaks, there would be no question how much air is entering around those
windows.

The end result is a client that will save substantial amounts of money in heating
costs and a client that will be impressed with your work.
